INITIAL CONTACT: Typically, a
representative of a family firm will arrange for an brief introductory
discussion with Dr. Daniel to discuss the advisability of family
business advisory services. Depending on the location of your family
and firm, this can occur in person, or by phone.
There is no charge for the initial contact.
LETTER OF UNDERSTANDING: Typically, when
a family firm decides to engage Dr. Daniel for advisory services
for their enterprise or family estate, a brief "Letter of Understanding"
is drafted, clarifying the extent and terms of the original engagement.
In most cases, the Letter of Understanding is limited to the Assessment
& Recommendation phase.
THE ASSESSMENT & RECOMMENDATION PHASE:
Normally, the next step of the advisory process entails an in-depth
assessment, usually occurring at the firm's (or family's) place
of business. The assessment culminates with a face-to-face meeting
during which Dr. Daniel presents his findings and recommendations
for action. The recommendations may include suggestions for reorganizing
certain aspects of the business's management structures, ownership/board
structures and family organization.
COACHING PHASE:
Some family enterprises find it beneficial to engage Dr. Daniel
as a coach to assist them in creating new communication or organizational
forums, and to begin practice using these forums for problem solving.
WHERE DO WE MEET WITH DR. DANIEL? In most
cases, the assessment phase will occur at or near your business
site or a location central to various family members. The coaching
phase typically takes place at your business site or at a neutral
location nearby (such as a hotel conference room in your community).

business owners enjoy a retreat at the Center's comfortable conference
facility located in Santa Barbara.
